About This Video
Welcome to the fourth and final installment of our Beyond Beginner series at Broche Ballet. This class is specifically designed to bridge the gap between foundational footwork and the rapid-fire precision required for advanced ballet. We focus exclusively on the dégagé, a movement that is essential for developing the speed and strength necessary for allegro work. Throughout this session, you will be guided through a series of progressive combinations that challenge both your muscle memory and your technical discipline.
The class begins with a focus on proper alignment and arm placement. We emphasize the importance of holding the arm steadily in first position (en avant) to provide the necessary core stability for fast leg movements. You will practice a specific sequence including dégagé to the front and side, integrated with piqué and enveloppé movements. This combination ensures that you aren't just moving your legs, but are maintaining the correct turnout and articulation through the ankle and toes.
As the class progresses, we move from a controlled medium tempo into what we call 'lightning speed.' These speed drills are designed to test your ability to stay over your standing leg while executing double-time movements. You will learn how to close into first position with precision, even when the music accelerates. By the end of this practice, you will have a better understanding of how to maintain your 'enveloppé' and 'piqué' technique without sacrificing your upper body posture. Whether you are practicing at home or in the studio, these drills are an excellent way to level up your agility and confidence at the barre.
