About This Video
Welcome to the first session of the Broche Ballet Beginner Pointe Summer Cohort. This introductory class is designed to transition you safely and effectively from soft slippers to your first pair of pointe shoes. We begin with the fundamentals that every dancer needs: the art of tying ribbons and elastics to ensure a secure fit that supports the ankle without restricting movement.
Understanding how to use your feet inside the box is critical for injury prevention and creating a beautiful aesthetic line. We dive deep into toe articulation, teaching you how to engage the intrinsic muscles of the foot rather than curling or "knuckling" your toes. This foundational strength is what allows for a stable demi-pointe and eventually a strong rise to full pointe.
The lesson progresses to 1st position exercises at the barre. You will learn the mechanics of a proper plié in pointe shoes, focusing on keeping the knees over the second toe and pressing the pinky toe edge into the floor to maintain turnout. We introduce the concept of "rolling through the shoes," a vital technique for transitioning between heights.
By mastering the articulation of the shoe through the demi-pointe, you learn to control your descent and store energy, preventing the jarring impact that can occur when coming down from a relevé. The class also covers essential alignment principles, such as keeping the heels forward and the inner thighs engaged. We conclude with a comprehensive Q&A session where common beginner concerns regarding shoe fit, ribbon placement, and foot discomfort are addressed.
Whether you are a dedicated adult beginner or returning to dance, this class provides the technical bedrock for a successful and long-lasting pointe practice. Join the Broche Ballet community and start your journey en pointe with confidence and grace.
