About This Video
Welcome to the foundational session of the Broche Ballet Summer 2021 Beginner Pointe Cohort. This class is specifically designed for dancers taking their very first steps en pointe, focusing on the essential technical and maintenance skills required for a successful journey. We begin with the practicalities of pointe shoes, including the correct way to tie your ribbons and adjust your elastics to ensure your shoes are secure and supportive.
Dealing with a twisting shank or narrow fit? Our instructor provides expert guidance on how features like the shoe's wing and specific elastic configurations can improve your alignment and comfort. Beyond the dancing itself, this class emphasizes the importance of shoe longevity and foot health.
You will learn critical maintenance tips, such as airing out your shoes after every session to preserve the glue and using baby powder to keep your toe pads dry. The technical portion of the lesson focuses on developing the internal strength of the feet. You will learn how to actively use your toes inside the box rather than scrunching them, which is vital for stability.
We progress through foundational exercises, including plié and relevé in first position. The focus remains on "rolling up" through the shoe and centering your weight over the big toe to maintain a strong, vertical line. To wrap up, we discuss recovery techniques and foot care rituals, such as the relief provided by fuzzy slippers after a challenging session.
This comprehensive introduction ensures you have the tools and knowledge to progress safely and confidently in your pointe work.
