About This Video
Welcome to this foundational Ballet Pointe Basics class at Broche Ballet. In this 24-minute session, we explore the fundamental techniques required to move safely and confidently from beginner to intermediate levels of pointe work. A unique feature of this class is the introduction of the Actable 3D printed pointe shoes, demonstrating how modern technology integrates with classical tradition to support the dancer's foot.
The class begins with a comprehensive barre series designed to warm up the muscles and prepare the joints for the demands of dancing en pointe. We focus heavily on proper alignment and posture, ensuring that every movement starts from a strong core foundation. You will work through essential exercises including tendu, plié, and dégagé, with a specific emphasis on the articulation of the foot through the shoe.
As we progress, the instructor introduces more complex adagio movements. You will practice the piqué, sous-sous, and the graceful développé. We also explore the mechanics of the temps lié and chassé, focusing on the weight transfer and control necessary for smooth transitions.
One of the key aspects of this class is its versatility; the instructor provides options to execute these movements either on flat or en pointe. This allows dancers at various stages of their training to find the right level of challenge while experimenting with different variations. Incorporating upper body coordination is just as important as footwork.
We integrate port de bras and rond de jambe into our exercises to ensure a cohesive, fluid performance. The class concludes with a series of movements away from the barre, including the pas de bourrée and a final tombé chassé sequence, showcasing the skills and technique developed throughout the session. We finish with a traditional révérence to honor the practice.
Whether you are breaking in new shoes or refining your basics, this class provides the strength-building exercises needed for a successful ballet journey.
