About This Video
Welcome to this intermediate pointe class at Broche Ballet, designed to help you transition your skills from the barre to the center with confidence and precision. This session focuses on the nuances of pointe work that often separate intermediate dancers from the advanced—specifically, weight distribution, foot articulation, and the speed of your bourrées. One of the primary focuses of this class is mastering the bourrée.
Many dancers struggle with speed because their weight is unevenly distributed, often leaning too heavily on the front foot. Our instructor breaks down why stepping firmly onto the back foot is the secret to picking up the front foot quickly, allowing for a shimmering, rapid movement. You will learn how to maintain this balance even as your body gets excited to move across the floor.
We also dive deep into the mechanics of descending from en pointe. Instead of simply letting gravity take over or pushing your hips back to find the floor, we explore how to use your toes to pull yourself down into a controlled plié. This flex action of the foot is essential for safety and aesthetic fluidity, ensuring your transitions look effortless.
The class structure includes a focused 5-minute barre warmup to prepare the ankles and toes, followed by 25 minutes of comprehensive center work. You will practice piqué movements, temps lié, and pas de cheval, all while focusing on arm placement and upper body alignment with an emphasis on the allongé line. Whether you are looking to improve your stability or increase your speed, this class provides the technical corrections needed to level up your pointe practice from the comfort of your home studio.
