About This Video
In this 24-minute focused practice session at Broche Ballet, we return to the core of the art form with a class dedicated to pliés, tendus, and relevés. Often, dancers rush through these foundational movements to get to the more athletic portions of the class, but true mastery is found in the simplicity of the barre. This session is designed to ground your technique, improve your alignment, and enhance your overall movement quality through deliberate repetition.
The instructor guides you through a thoughtful progression, starting with the plié. You will focus on keeping the spine long and the weight evenly distributed between both feet, avoiding the common pitfall of rolling the arches. From here, we move into tendus and tombés. You will learn the correct way to perform a tombé, focusing on how to lower the body down from a standing position while keeping the legs engaged and the turnout active.
Balance and stability are key themes as we transition into relevés. The class provides specific tips for lifting up onto demi-pointe, finding your center, and maintaining control during a sous-sus. To complement the lower body work, we integrate specific port de bras and allongé movements. You will learn the importance of proper hand positioning and how to frame the body with the arms to create a cohesive, professional silhouette.
Additionally, we explore footwork details such as the cou-de-pied and petite de la pey to sharpen your articulation. By focusing on these specific techniques, you build the muscle memory necessary for complex combinations in the center. This class emphasizes the value of practice and repetition, providing the feedback and encouragement needed to master these essential skills. Whether you are using this as a daily warmup or a deep dive into technique, this Broche Ballet session will leave you feeling centered, elongated, and strong.
