About This Video
Unlock the potential of your feet with this specialized Pre-Pointe conditioning class from Broche Ballet. Whether you aspire to dance en pointe or simply want to improve your stability and line in flat shoes, this session focuses on the intricate mechanics of the foot and ankle. We begin with a deep dive into toe dexterity and midfoot mobilization, two often-overlooked components of ballet technique that are essential for long-term progress.
The class starts with a series of innovative exercises designed to improve neuromuscular control. You will practice 'piano toes,' a challenging exercise that requires you to move each toe individually. This mental training is essential for building the fine motor skills needed for complex ballet footwork.
We also explore the 'taco' and 'pancake' movements, which target the midfoot to loosen up the tissue between the bones. By mobilizing these joints, you can significantly improve your range of motion and the aesthetic of your arch. In addition to active movement, this session includes guided self-massage and mobilization techniques.
Using your hands, you will learn how to release tension in the bottom of the arch and create space in the joints. This hands-on approach ensures that the muscles are supple and ready for the demands of the barre and center work. The second half of the class transitions into ballet-specific strength with a focus on rélevé and passé.
By applying the dexterity and mobility gained in the first half, you will find more stability in your rélevé and a more precise placement in passé. Strengthening the ankle range and the intrinsic muscles of the foot is the key to preventing injury and achieving a professional-looking line. At Broche Ballet, we believe every dancer can improve their physical capabilities through intentional practice.
