About This Video
Welcome to a restorative 40-minute session at Broche Ballet designed to soothe the body while sharpening the mind. Our Slow and Gentle Ballet Barre is the perfect way to begin your week with intention and grace. This class prioritizes the quality of movement over speed, allowing you to find deep engagement in every plié and precision in every tendu.
By slowing down the tempo, dancers can focus on the nuances of alignment and muscle engagement that are often missed in faster-paced classes. During this session, we move through a comprehensive sequence of exercises, starting with a gentle port de bras to warm up the arms and shoulders. A unique focus of today's class is the use of the passé movement to build stability and hip strength.
You will learn to lift the leg into a clean passé or retiré position, focusing on the lift from the inner thigh and the connection between the knee and the hip. The instructor provides constant guidance on maintaining a neutral neck and an engaged core to ensure your balancé remains steady throughout the workout. We also incorporate cambré movements to improve flexibility in the spine, paired with tendu lié and fondu exercises to develop a soft, controlled "melting" quality in your transitions.
We explore the tombé to practice shifting weight with elegance and ease. The class concludes with a dedicated series of relaxing stretches, allowing you to unwind and lengthen the muscles after the precision work of the barre. Whether you are an intermediate dancer looking to refine your foundations or an advanced student seeking a mindful, low-impact practice, this class offers the space to breathe and grow.
