About This Video
Welcome to a transformative "Deep Dive" session at the barre with Broche Ballet. This 24-minute follow-along class is specifically designed for dancers who want to move past the superficial and truly master the mechanics of ballet turnout and posture. Often, turnout is misunderstood as just a position of the feet, but in this "slow and spicy" session, we explore it as a dynamic, internal engagement that begins at the hip and is supported by a strong, stable core.
Throughout this session, you will be guided through a series of intentional exercises including grand plié, retiré, and coup-de-pied. We move at a meditative pace to allow you to feel the nuances of every movement. One of the key focuses of this class is using the heel as a fulcrum—a vital technique for maintaining external rotation as you transition between flexing and pointing the foot.
By slowing down the tempo, you have the space to ensure your alignment remains pristine even during more challenging sequences. The instructor provides continuous feedback on common technical pitfalls. You will learn how to properly engage the back of the knee and push the calf forward to maximize your line and stability.
We also integrate Pilates-inspired concepts to help you connect your breath to your movement, ensuring that your posture remains lifted and your core stays engaged. This meditative approach doesn't mean the work is easy; the "spicy" nature of the class comes from the deep muscular engagement required to hold these positions correctly over time. At Broche Ballet, we believe that the details make the dancer.
By focusing on the "why" behind the turnout, you gain the autonomy to correct yourself in any class setting. Whether you are a beginner looking to establish a solid foundation or an experienced dancer wanting to reset your technique, this class offers the detailed corrections needed to elevate your practice.
