About This Video
Welcome to Broche Ballet’s Speed Barre, a unique class designed for the dancer who wants to spend less time listening and more time moving. If you’ve ever felt like your standard ballet class lacks a cardiovascular element, this rapid-fire session is for you. We focus on simple combinations executed at a brisk pace to challenge your stamina, coordination, and muscle memory without compromising the elegance of the art form.
In this 36-minute session, we dive straight into the work. We begin with grands pliés to warm up the joints and establish the flow that carries through the entire barre. From there, we transition into sharp tendus and dégagés, where the emphasis is on quick footwork and maintaining a strong core.
One of the highlights of this class is the focus on développé and enveloppé movements. These require significant control, especially when performed in quick succession. You will learn to hold your enveloppé for a brief, controlled moment before closing, ensuring that speed never comes at the cost of proper technique.
We also pay close attention to port de bras. A common mistake in fast-paced classes is losing the line of the arms; we focus on keeping the elbow lifted above the wrist during brushing movements to maintain a classical silhouette. This attention to detail extends to our fondu work.
The instructor emphasizes the melting quality of the fondu, encouraging you to find a full stretch and hold before closing, which helps build the necessary strength for center work. This Speed Barre is an excellent way to bridge the gap between slow, technical barre work and the dynamic requirements of center combinations. By the time you reach the arabesque and piqué sequences, you will feel the sweaty benefits of this high-intensity approach.
Join us at Broche Ballet to push your limits, refine your passé, and find the joy in continuous, fluid movement.
