About This Video
Welcome to a comprehensive beginner ballet barre practice designed by Broche Ballet to help you build a strong and stable foundation. Whether you are just starting your dance journey or returning to the barre to refine your basic mechanics, this well-rounded class focuses on the essential movements that form the building blocks of classical dance technique. We prioritize alignment, control, and the seamless integration of upper and lower body movements.
In this session, we place a heavy emphasis on port de bras—the carriage of the arms. Many beginner dancers find it challenging to coordinate their arms while focusing on their feet, but this class provides clear, step-by-step guidance on achieving fluid coordination. You will learn how to maintain soft elbows and lowered shoulders, ensuring your upper body remains expressive and elegant. Throughout the exercises, we focus on maintaining a consistent direction with the shoulders and a lifted chin to develop that iconic ballet silhouette.
Our barre sequence includes detailed work on the plié and tendu. We focus on achieving a smooth, controlled quality in our pliés, ensuring proper knee alignment and engagement of the legs. During tendus, the goal is precision; we work on stretching the foot along the floor to articulate the metatarsals without lifting the heel prematurely. These exercises are vital for developing the foot strength required for more advanced work.
As we progress, we explore foundational positions like the passé and the arabesque. You will learn how to engage your core to find balance and stability during these extensions. We also incorporate cambré movements to improve spinal flexibility and grace. At Broche Ballet, we believe a disciplined barre is the key to success. This class encourages you to breathe through the movements, find your center, and develop the poise of a professional dancer.
