About This Video
Welcome to Class #10 of the Broche Ballet Winter 2024 Beginner Pointe Program. In this comprehensive 55-minute session, we bridge the gap between isolated technical exercises and fluid combinations, focusing on the strength and precision required to transition gracefully between positions en pointe. As we reach the double-digit mark of our 16-week series, we shift our focus toward mastering the 'brush and push' mechanics that define professional-level footwork.
We begin the class with a focused review of the relevé coupé. This exercise is foundational for developing the ankle stability and core engagement necessary for one-legged balance. You will learn to find your center quickly while maintaining a strong, turned-out position, ensuring your weight is perfectly centered over the platform of the pointe shoe. Our instructor provides detailed guidance on maintaining alignment to prevent sickling or rolling off the platform.
A significant portion of today’s lesson is dedicated to the échappé. By mastering the transition from a deep plié to a fully extended position through a 'brushing' action, you will build the muscular endurance needed for more complex center work. We also explore the connection between the dégagé and the relevé, teaching you how to use the floor to propel yourself upward into a stable sous-sus.
To conclude the session, we introduce a beautiful bourrée adagio. This combination integrates every element practiced in class, including the pas de bourrée, arabesque, and fondu. The focus here is on artistry and continuity—learning how to mask the physical effort of pointe work behind soft port de bras and a sustained, elegant line. Join us at Broche Ballet as we continue this journey toward technical excellence and graceful movement.
