About This Video
Welcome to Class 14 of the Broche Ballet Fall 2023 Beginner Pointe Program. As we approach the final weeks of our 16-week journey, this session is designed to bridge the gap between static exercises and the dynamic movements required for fluid dancing en pointe. Today’s lesson focuses heavily on the mechanics of the piqué and the precision of the sous-sus.
The class begins at the barre with a comprehensive warm-up, emphasizing proper plié technique. A deep, controlled plié is the engine for all pointe work, providing the necessary power for relevé and the cushion for landing. We move through combinations of échappé and relevé, focusing on maintaining turnout and a strong, vertical alignment.
A key highlight of this class is the introduction to piqué movements. Unlike a relevé where you push off the floor, a piqué requires you to step directly onto a straight, supporting leg. We break down the weight transfer and the necessary core engagement to ensure you remain stable and centered.
Alongside this, we refine the sous-sus, practicing how to pull the legs tightly together in fifth position and, just as importantly, how to roll down through the feet with control. Throughout the session, you will also practice dégagé and cou-de-pied exercises. These movements are essential for developing the articulation and speed needed for more advanced center work.
The instructor provides detailed corrections on foot placement and postural alignment, ensuring that every movement is executed with the characteristic grace and strength of a Broche Ballet student. Whether you are practicing at home or in a studio, this class provides the technical foundation needed to progress safely and effectively in your pointe journey. Join us as we refine these essential skills and prepare for the final weeks of the program.
