About This Video
A proper warmup is the foundation of safe and effective pointe work. At Broche Ballet, we understand that preparing the delicate structures of the feet and ankles is crucial before transitioning to full center work or rigorous repertoire. This 10-minute routine is designed to bridge the gap between your standard barre and being fully en pointe, ensuring your muscles are fired up and your joints are mobile and protected.
We begin with a focus on ankle articulation, utilizing a series of demi-plié and stretch movements to increase blood flow. This is followed by tendu and flex exercises that emphasize the transition through the demi-pointe, a vital component for maintaining control while ascending and descending. A unique aspect of this class is our focus on the plié en pointe.
You will learn how to pull the shoe back and use a specific foot curvature to maintain alignment and strength, avoiding common pitfalls like knuckling. We also incorporate 16 counts of relevés in first position to build the necessary power and springing action required for more advanced jumps and turns. Finally, we conclude the session with a series of balances in sous-sus and a pas de bourrée to help you find your center and balance.
This routine isn't just about physical preparation; it's about mental focus, allowing you to feel grounded and secure in your shoes before the main portion of your practice begins. Whether you are prepping for a full class or just looking for a quick ankle-strengthening session, this video provides the technical cues needed to dance with confidence.
