About This Video
Welcome to this specialized technique class at Broche Ballet, where we strip away the complexity of choreography to focus on the absolute bedrock of classical dance: posture and alignment. In this Deep Dive session, we explore why how you stand at the barre determines how you will jump, turn, and perform en pointe in the future. Proper ballet posture is far more than just standing up straight; it is an active, internal monitoring of the spine and pelvis.
During this focused practice, you will learn to manage your alignment from the inside out. We emphasize the 'front of the hips up, back of the hips down' correction, a crucial element that stabilizes the core and allows for greater freedom of movement in the legs. By maintaining this connection, you prevent common errors like arching the lower back or 'tucking' the pelvis, both of which can lead to injury and technical plateaus.
The class focuses on slow, meditative movements including pliés and positions in cou-de-pied. We use two hands on the barre to ensure total symmetry and focus. You will be guided through cues for the upper body as well: keeping the ribs forward but contained, the chest wide, and the front of the neck in with the ears lifted.
This creates the long, elegant line synonymous with professional ballet while providing the structural integrity needed for advanced allegro and pirouettes. At Broche Ballet, we believe that detailed training is the fastest path to progress. Whether you are working on your first year of training or looking to refine years of practice, these fundamental adjustments will transform your stability.
By the end of this session, you will have a toolkit of self-checks to use in every subsequent class, ensuring your technique remains clean, strong, and ready for higher levels of artistry.
