About This Video
Welcome to this 20-minute beginner center practice session at Broche Ballet. Transitioning from the barre to the center is a significant milestone for any adult ballet student, as it requires greater core stability and a deeper understanding of weight placement. This class is designed to bridge that gap, focusing on building the stability and spatial awareness needed to dance confidently without the support of the barre.
We begin with fundamental exercises such as tendu and rond de jambe par terre, emphasizing the essential coordination of the arms and legs to create fluid, professional movement. Throughout the lesson, we explore the mechanics of balance and weight transfer. You will practice the temps lié and tombé, learning how to move through space with grace and intention.
A major focus of this session is the arabesque; you will learn how to lengthen the body and extend through the limbs while maintaining a square pelvis and strong supporting leg. We also delve into pivoting and turning techniques, teaching you how to manage your spacing and pacing on the floor. By timing your arm and leg movements to mirror each other's bend and straighten, you will achieve a more cohesive and artistic quality in your dancing.
Finally, we introduce the concept of fondu—the 'melting' movement—and small sauté jumps to develop strength, elasticity, and control in your landings. The instructor provides detailed guidance on posture and alignment, ensuring that you develop safe and effective habits for your ballet journey. Whether you are practicing in a small home space or a large studio, this session will help you feel more grounded, confident, and expressive in your center work.
