About This Video
Welcome to Week 14 of the Broche Ballet Beginner Pointe Cohort. As we approach the final stages of this comprehensive 16-week journey, this session shifts gears toward a more fast-paced environment. The goal is to 'put everything together,' ensuring that your foundational skills are now becoming second nature as we introduce more complex movements and transitions.
This class is designed to test your stamina and technical retention, preparing you for the final weeks of the program. In this class, we place a heavy emphasis on adagio work at the barre, specifically focusing on the piqué ballonné. Executing a piqué ballonné requires a delicate balance of strength and grace; you will practice moving through passé positions and into the tombé with precision.
The instructor guides you through the specific rhythm—one, two, three, tombé, four—ensuring that your weight placement remains centered over your pointe shoes. We focus on the 'out of a race' feeling to maintain momentum while staying grounded in your technique. A significant portion of the barre work is dedicated to mastering the bourrée.
To achieve the fluttering, effortless look of a professional dancer, you must maintain a strong, shaped arch. We introduce the concept of the 'dome flex' to help you feel the internal musculature of the foot, ensuring that when you step en pointe quickly, your feet remain supported and articulated. You will also practice pas de bourrée combinations, learning how to let go of the barre with confidence and roll down through the feet with control.
A key challenge in this session is the 'long time up' requirement, building the endurance necessary for center work. Sustainability in pointe work requires a focus on recovery and flexibility. This class concludes with targeted stretching exercises.
We address common areas of tension, such as the front of the ankle and the calves. By tilting the ankle away from the center and relaxing the front of the foot, you can improve your range of motion and prevent common injuries. Join Broche Ballet for this high-energy session and take a major step toward pointe mastery.
