About This Video
Welcome to Week 14 of the Broche Ballet Beginner Pointe Cohort. As we near the conclusion of this 16-week journey, this session focuses on 'stepping it up' by challenging your technique in new and varied contexts. We move beyond simple repetitions to focus on the fluid integration of strength, alignment, and foot articulation. This class is essential for dancers looking to refine their stability and prepare for more complex combinations in the center.
The lesson begins with a deep dive into fundamental movements, including pliés and tendus, with a specific focus on the mechanics of the pointe shoe. A key technical focus today is the preservation of the shank. You will learn the importance of keeping the shank curved rather than allowing it to flatten out when flexing the foot or transitioning through demi-pointe. This not only extends the life of your shoes but also ensures you are engaging the intrinsic muscles of the feet necessary for secure balance.
We progress through a series of dégagés and passé movements, leading into a refined adagio sequence. This combination incorporates pliés, coups de pied, and dégagés to test your control and weight placement. Throughout these exercises, you will practice maintaining turnout and proper alignment in first, second, and fourth positions. The instructor also provides targeted stretches for ankle flexibility, including modifications for those who may experience Achilles sensitivity. By focusing on keeping the feet pointed even inside the shoe, you will learn to step onto pointe more quickly and with greater precision. This class at Broche Ballet is designed to build the functional strength and confidence required for the final stages of your beginner pointe training.
