About This Video
In the second week of our comprehensive 16-week Beginner Pointe Cohort at Broche Ballet, we transition from preparation to active work en pointe. This class is designed to help you build the foundational strength and technical precision required for a safe and successful pointe journey. Starting with your shoes on, we dive straight into essential exercises that bridge the gap between flat-shoe technique and the unique demands of pointe work.
We focus heavily on the demi-pointe position, emphasizing the need for control and articulation through the shank of the shoe. You will practice movements such as tendu and coup-de-pied, learning how to maintain your turnout and alignment even as you navigate the new sensation of the box and platform. A major focus of this session is the relationship between the core and the feet.
Standing up straight and engaging your core is non-negotiable when dancing en pointe; it provides the lift necessary to stay off your joints and maintain balance. We also explore the mechanics of plié relevé, ensuring your heels stay high and controlled throughout the movement. Whether you are working in third or fifth position, we use the big toe joint as a reference point to ensure proper alignment and avoid sickling.
Beyond the physical movement, this class covers the practical side of being a pointe student. We discuss managing the inevitable aches and pains of training, including how to properly stretch the Achilles tendon and the importance of allowing your shoes to dry out between sessions. By playing with your toes inside the box to spread them out, you will find better balance and prevent common foot issues.
Join us at Broche Ballet as we refine your technique and build the confidence you need to dance beautifully en pointe.
