About This Video
Welcome to Class #2 of the Broche Ballet 16-week Beginner Pointe Program. This session is designed for the dancer who is just beginning their journey en pointe and needs a structured, safe environment to build foundational strength. In this lesson, we shift our focus to working actively in the shoes, starting with the importance of a solid first position.
The transition from soft shoes to pointe shoes requires a heightened awareness of body mechanics. We begin by establishing correct alignment in first position. You will learn how to properly distribute your weight and find your center before moving into more dynamic exercises.
Our instructor guides you through a series of barre exercises specifically modified for the beginner pointe student, including plié, relevé, and tendu. These movements are the building blocks of all ballet technique, and mastering them en pointe is essential for preventing injury and developing beautiful lines. A significant portion of this class is dedicated to articulating the foot through coup-de-pied and pas de cheval.
We break down the mechanics of the coup-de-pied position, focusing on how to bend the leg while maintaining a stable connection with the floor and rolling through the shoe with control. You will also practice the pas de cheval, learning how to coordinate the lean of the body with the extension of the foot to achieve a fluid, horse-like step. We also introduce the temps lié, focusing on the smooth transfer of weight through a plié.
Safety is our top priority at Broche Ballet. Throughout the class, we emphasize proper ankle alignment and tracking. You will learn how to identify and correct common issues such as knuckling or sickling, which are frequent challenges for those new to pointe work.
Additionally, we cover pointe shoe maintenance and troubleshooting, helping you understand how your shoes should feel and when to seek professional adjustments. Whether you are an adult learner fulfilling a lifelong dream or a student looking to refine your technique, this class provides the technical detail necessary for success.
