About This Video
Welcome back to the Broche Ballet Beginner Pointe 16-week program. In this sixth session, we shift our focus toward one of the most demanding aspects of pointe work: building stamina and stability on a single leg. As you progress in your training, the ability to support your weight on one foot while maintaining proper alignment becomes crucial for more advanced combinations and center work.
This class begins with a series of exercises at the barre designed to warm up the feet and ankles. We revisit the foundational plié and tendu, emphasizing the mechanics of how the foot moves within the pointe shoe. You will learn the importance of maintaining tension under the calf and through the ankle when picking up the foot into a coupé position from a demi-plié.
This engagement ensures that you are lifting out of the shoe rather than sinking into your toes. We also explore the rond de jambe en pointe, a movement that requires immense control and turnout. Throughout these exercises, our instructor provides specific cues on ankle alignment and leg placement to ensure you are working safely and efficiently.
A highlight of this session is the preparation for the pas de bourrée, focusing on the roll-down and step-back-up phase to build the necessary coordination for this classic ballet step. As always, safety is our priority. We dedicate time to calf stretches and Achilles tendon recovery at the end of the session to alleviate any tightness from the rigorous work.
Whether you are struggling with shoe fitting or pacing, this class offers practical advice to help you navigate the challenges of early pointe work. By focusing on balance and control today, you are laying the groundwork for effortless movement tomorrow. Join Broche Ballet for this essential step in your pointe journey.
