About This Video
Welcome back to the studio for Class #12 of the Broche Ballet Fall 2023 Beginner Pointe Program. In this session, we shift our focus toward building the endurance and consistency required for sustained pointe work. Mastery of dancing en pointe requires more than just understanding the positions; it requires the stamina to maintain proper form and alignment through repeated sequences.
This class is specifically designed to help you bridge the gap between simply learning a step and performing it with grace, confidence, and absolute control. We begin our practice at the barre with essential foundational exercises, including demi-plié, tendu, and relevé. These movements are the vital building blocks of all pointe technique, ensuring your feet, ankles, and calves are properly warmed up and aligned before moving into more complex center work.
The instructor provides detailed technical feedback throughout, emphasizing the importance of a neutral pelvis and a strong, engaged core—elements that are absolutely vital for safety and stability when dancing on the tips of your toes. As we progress through the lesson, we move into combinations that challenge your coordination and cardiovascular health. You will practice the pas de bourrée, focusing on the precision of the footwork and the fluid transition from one foot to the other.
We also incorporate movements like the échappé and sous-sous, emphasizing the "zip" and power required to reach the platform of the pointe shoes efficiently. One of the primary highlights of this class is a comprehensive combination involving tombé and changement steps, designed to test your rhythm, musicality, and timing. Repetition is the central theme of this 32-minute session.
By performing these steps multiple times, you build the necessary muscle memory to execute them instinctively and safely. The class concludes with a dedicated cool-down and stretching segment to assist in muscle recovery and maintain essential flexibility. Whether you are following our structured 16-week program or looking for a targeted stamina workout to supplement your training, this class offers the professional guidance and encouragement Broche Ballet is known for.
Please remember: do not start pointe work without the explicit approval of a qualified ballet teacher to ensure your physical readiness.
