About This Video
Welcome to the tenth installment of the Broche Ballet Fall 2023 Beginner Pointe Program. In this session, we continue to build the foundational strength and technical precision required for dancing en pointe. This class is specifically designed to bridge the gap between basic movements and more complex weight transfers, focusing heavily on the "scooping" action in sous-sus and developing necessary single-leg stability.
The lesson begins at the barre, where we refine fundamental movements like the plié and tendu to prepare the feet and ankles for the rigors of pointe work. A major focus of today's class is the fondu. We emphasize the "melting" quality of the movement while ensuring the supporting leg remains strong and aligned.
You will learn how to lift and step with control, a vital skill for transitions in center work. We also delve into the mechanics of the coupé and tombé, highlighting the importance of keeping the back leg straight and active to maintain a clean line and secure balance. As we move into the center, the class transitions into adagio combinations.
These slower, controlled movements are essential for developing the fluidity and grace that define ballet. We will practice the pas de bourrée and pas de tombé, focusing on the rolling action of the feet. Learning to roll up and down through the pointe shoes without losing balance is a hallmark of an advancing beginner.
Throughout these exercises, our instructors emphasize proper posture and turnout, ensuring that every movement is technically sound and aesthetically pleasing. To wrap up the session, we dedicate time to stretching the arches and calves. This is a critical component of any pointe class, as it helps prevent injury and maintains the flexibility needed for a high relevé.
