About This Video
Welcome to the third installment of the Broche Ballet Fall 2023 Beginner Pointe 16-week program. This session marks an important milestone in your development as we transition from basic foot exercises to more complex structural positions like the sous-sus. Designed specifically for those who have recently begun dancing en pointe, this class prioritizes the safety, strength, and meticulous technique required to support your body weight correctly and gracefully.
We begin at the barre with a series of focused pliés and relevés. These fundamental movements are the heartbeat of pointe work, ensuring that the ankles and calves are sufficiently warmed up and engaged. The instructor provides detailed guidance on foot alignment, helping you avoid the common pitfalls of sickling or rolling over the toes.
A key focus of this class is articulation; you will learn how to roll through the demi-pointe to reach full pointe, ensuring total control at every stage of the rise and descent. The highlight of Class #3 is the introduction of the sous-sus. This "under-over" movement requires a tight fifth position relevé, where the legs are drawn together to appear as one cohesive line.
We will practice the mechanics of springing into this position and, more importantly, the controlled descent back into a demi-plié. Mastering the sous-sus is vital for future center work, as it provides the stability needed for turns and transitions. In addition to active movements, this class emphasizes the importance of recovery and flexibility.
You will be guided through targeted stretches for the calves and Achilles tendons. These areas often experience significant tension during the early stages of pointe work, and proper maintenance is essential for injury prevention. Whether you are practicing in a studio or from home, these exercises will help you build the confidence and physical capability to progress through the remaining 13 weeks of our comprehensive program.
