About This Video
Welcome back to the Winter 2024 Beginner Pointe Program at Broche Ballet. In Class #3 of our 16-week comprehensive series, we focus on the foundational movement of the sous-sus. This 50-minute session is designed to bridge the gap between basic rises and more complex footwork, ensuring you have the strength and alignment necessary for safe en pointe training.
The class begins with intensive barre work, emphasizing the precision of your tendu and plié to warm up the intrinsic muscles of the feet. As we progress, the instructor introduces the sous-sus, a vital position where the dancer draws the feet together tightly in fifth position relevé. You will learn how to engage your inner thighs and core muscles to maintain stability and create a clean, vertical line.
Throughout the session, we incorporate temps lié and piqué movements to challenge your weight placement and coordination. The focus remains on stamina and endurance, helping you build the pointe muscles needed for longer combinations. We also explore the cou-de-pied position, teaching you how to maintain your turnout and arch while transitioning between one and two feet.
Broche Ballet emphasizes the importance of proper alignment and posture. Our instructor provides detailed cues on breathing and relaxation, which are essential for achieving optimal performance without unnecessary tension. We also include a dedicated section for stretching and flexibility to ensure your muscles recover properly after the intense physical activity.
By the end of this class, you will have a better understanding of how to manage your energy during pointe work and how to listen to your body's signals. Join us as we continue to build your confidence and technique in your pointe shoes. Let's get to work on that perfect sous-sus!
