About This Video
Welcome to Week 7 of the Broche Ballet Beginner Pointe Cohort. As we approach the midpoint of our 16-week program, the focus shifts toward developing the speed and stamina necessary for more complex en pointe combinations. This class is specifically designed to target the intricate muscles of the feet and ankles, ensuring you have the structural support needed for fast, precise movements.
We begin with a focused warm-up at the barre, concentrating on the articulation of the foot through tendu and tendu lié. From there, the session intensifies with drills focused on single-leg strength. You will work through variations of sous-sus and cou-de-pied that challenge your balance and force you to engage your core for stability. Maintaining a straight and strong supporting leg—specifically keeping the knee, hip, and ankle aligned—is a key theme of today's practice. Throughout the lesson, our instructor provides technical feedback to ensure you are lifting out of your shoes rather than sinking into them.
Speed en pointe is generated by the strength of the calves and heels. This class provides detailed guidance on how to use these muscle groups to propel yourself into movements like the pas de bourrée and tombé. We also explore the développé, emphasizing the control required to extend the leg while remaining securely on the platform of the supporting shoe. By focusing on the 'stillness' of the foot during these transitions, you will develop the grace and power characteristic of advanced dancers.
Beyond strength-building, this class addresses the importance of recovery and flexibility. You will learn specific stretches for the Achilles and arches that help maintain range of motion without sacrificing the tension required for stability. Join us at Broche Ballet as we refine your technique, build your confidence, and prepare your feet for the beautiful demands of classical ballet.
