About This Video
Welcome back to Class #3 of the Broche Ballet 16-week Beginner Pointe Program. In this session, we transition from the basic introduction of the shoes into the active mechanics required to dance in them safely and beautifully. Developing a strong foundation en pointe requires more than just standing; it requires an intimate understanding of how your foot interacts with the structure of the shoe.
" This class provides specific drills and stretches designed to increase ankle flexibility and shoe pliability. You will learn the importance of bending the shoe to match your arch, ensuring that the platform sits flat against the floor. This alignment is vital for both aesthetic line and physical safety, as it prevents the weight from falling back or putting undue pressure on the joints.
Throughout the barre portion of the class, we will work through essential exercises including pliés, tendus, and relevés. We place a special focus on the pas de cheval, a movement that teaches you how to articulate the foot within the shoe, emphasizing the "scooping" action that requires significant toe strength. Additionally, we break down the sous-sous, focusing on keeping the ankles separate and "out" rather than letting them collapse inward.
The lesson culminates in a complex four-part combination involving cou-de-pied and various balance challenges. Remembering these sequences while maintaining proper form—such as keeping your heels high and your turnout active—is a key part of developing professional-level control. Proper technique at the barre is the bridge to successful center work.
We emphasize the necessity of keeping the heels down during specific transitions to build the necessary stretch in the Achilles. These details are what build a truly proficient dancer. Join us at Broche Ballet as we refine your placement and build the confidence to stand tall en pointe.
