About This Video
Welcome to Class 9 of the Broche Ballet 16-week Beginner Pointe Program. As we move into the second half of this comprehensive course, we shift our focus toward increasing the articulation and speed of your footwork. This lesson is designed to bridge the gap between static exercises and fluid movement, ensuring you develop the necessary strength to dance en pointe with grace and confidence.
One of the primary focuses of this session is the 'scoop' sous-sus. Rather than a simple rise, the scoop action emphasizes the drawing together of the legs and the specific mechanics of how the feet move from an open position into a tight fifth position en pointe. We break down the alignment of the heels and the stretching required to maintain a stable and aesthetically pleasing line. This foundational movement is critical for all future center work and more advanced transitions.
In addition to the sous-sus, Class 9 introduces targeted drills for fast ankles and toes. We explore the intricate mechanics of the pas de bourrée, emphasizing the specific flexing and rolling actions that allow for quick, nimble footwork. You will practice steps like the pas de cheval and développé, focusing on the bending of the shoes to build strength in the metatarsals. Our instructor provides detailed guidance on the 'flexing' action within the pas de bourrée, distinguishing it from other movements to ensure you are manipulating your pointe shoes correctly.
To round out the class, we begin putting these individual elements together into longer dance combinations. You will work through sequences involving the glissade, tombé, and fondu, learning how to maintain your turnout and balance while transitioning between various positions. By the end of this lesson, you will have a better understanding of how to control your weight en pointe and how to execute quick, precise movements that are the hallmark of professional ballet technique. Continue your journey with Broche Ballet as we refine your artistry and strength.
