About This Video
Welcome to Class #3 of the Broche Ballet 16-week Beginner Pointe Program. This comprehensive 30-minute session is specifically designed to help adult dancers build the necessary strength and stamina for a successful transition to dancing en pointe. At this stage of your training, consistency and attention to detail are paramount.
This class focuses on the crucial intersection of flexibility and stability, ensuring your feet and ankles are adequately prepared for the unique demands of pointe shoes. In this practice, we prioritize correct alignment and proactive injury prevention. One of the highlights is a specialized ankle stretch; you will learn the technical nuances of keeping the shank straight to protect your joints and improve your line.
We also delve into the biomechanics of the foot, explaining why it is vital not to overstretch the big toe area, which can weaken the foot’s structural integrity. Instead, we focus on building a solid, supported relevé. Throughout the class, we utilize the barre for essential support as we move through foundational exercises including pliés, sous-sous, and pas de cheval.
The instructor provides detailed, real-time corrections on cou-de-pied positioning and demonstrates how to maintain proper turnout and alignment even during complex footwork. You will receive specific tips on the mechanics of rolling onto the box of the shoe, such as keeping the right ankle positioned slightly towards the left to maintain a centered balance. Strengthening the Achilles tendon is another vital component of Class #3.
A resilient and flexible Achilles is the key to longevity and stamina in ballet. By the end of this session, you will have a better understanding of how to manage foot fatigue and practice good foot hygiene, including massaging sore areas and keeping the toes relaxed. Join us at Broche Ballet as we guide you through the technical milestones of your beginner pointe journey with professional expertise and encouragement.
