About This Video
Welcome to Class #4 of Broche Ballet’s Summer 2021 Beginner Pointe Cohort. This session is dedicated to one of the most foundational and versatile movements in ballet: the pas de bourrée. Developing a fluid and strong pas de bourrée en pointe requires more than just ankle strength; it demands precise articulation, correct weight distribution, and a deep understanding of foot preparation.
In this class, we move beyond basic steps to explore the technical intricacies that allow for seamless transitions across the floor. " In the context of pointe work, a strong foot involves active ankle flexion and intentional toe shaping. Our instructor emphasizes that the foot must be fully prepared and engaged before you ever step onto it.
Strength is not something you find after the weight is already on the shoe; it is cultivated in the transition itself. You will practice rolling through the three-quarter mark of the shoe, ensuring every part of the foot is articulated during relevé and plié. A significant portion of this lesson is dedicated to cou-de-pied and the mechanics of the pas de bourrée.
We break down the movement count by count, ensuring that your transitions from back to side to front are clean and controlled. You will learn how to maintain your turnout and alignment while navigating these quick weight shifts. To conclude the sequences, we focus on the sous-sus, teaching you how to stay lifted and find your balance for several counts after the movement is complete.
Incorporating breath into your movements is another key focus of this session. We explore how a well-timed inhale can assist in the lift required for relevé, while a controlled exhale helps you find depth in your plié. This coordination between breath and movement is essential for achieving the effortless appearance of professional ballet.
