About This Video
Welcome to the fourth session of our Beginner Pointe Summer 2021 Cohort at Broche Ballet. This class is dedicated to mastering one of the most fundamental yet intricate movements in the ballet vocabulary: the pas de bourrée. Transitioning from soft shoes to pointe shoes requires a fundamental shift in how we perceive our relationship with the floor, and today we focus specifically on grounding, foot articulation, and the strength required for stable weight transfers.
We begin the session with a thorough review of foot preparation. Before even stepping onto the platform of the shoe, the instructor emphasizes the importance of internal foot strength and toe separation. You will learn how to lengthen into the ground rather than simply pushing onto it, ensuring a fluid transition and greater stability.
This focus on feeling the floor is essential for developing the proprioception necessary for advanced pointe work. The core of the lesson dives into the specific mechanics of the pas de bourrée. We break down the movement into its components: the initial plié, the transition to demi-pointe, and the precise sequence of back, side, and front steps.
Proper execution requires a strong left foot to maintain balance and a keen attention to the rolling motion of the feet. We also explore the concept of communicating with your feet—using subtle movements of the ankle to ensure proper alignment and coordination. Throughout the class, we emphasize the value of repetition.
Complex dance movements are built on muscle memory, and by practicing these combinations repeatedly, you will build the confidence needed to perform them with grace and control. We also address the importance of recovery, demonstrating demi-pointe stretches and toe separation techniques to keep your feet healthy. Join us at Broche Ballet as we refine your technique and elevate your artistry en pointe.
