About This Video
Welcome to Class #7 of the Broche Ballet 16-week Beginner Pointe Program. In this session, we transition into more fluid movements while maintaining the structural integrity of the foot. One of the most common challenges for new dancers is avoiding the stiff look of "brick feet"—when the foot loses its articulation during quick transitions.
Today, we focus on keeping the foot long and the toes reaching for the floor, ensuring every movement is graceful and technically sound. Our lesson begins with a focus on the bourrée. This traveling step requires precise footwork; we will practice the roll up and step technique, focusing on picking up the back foot and maintaining a consistent level en pointe.
You will also learn how to incorporate a flexed foot into your pas de bourrée preparation and transitions, which helps build the necessary strength and ankle flexibility for more advanced combinations later in the program. We then move into pas de cheval and cloche exercises. These movements emphasize the "brush" of the foot and the importance of a smooth, controlled dégagé both front and back.
The instructor provides detailed cues on how to move "up the groove" during a cloche, ensuring your alignment remains centered even as your legs move through space. We also touch on adagio movements, emphasizing the stretch of the Achilles and the straightness of the knees. Stability and strength are at the heart of this class.
By working through su-su positions and refined pliés en pointe, you will develop the muscle memory needed for effortless pointe work. The class concludes with a targeted stretching routine designed to relieve tension and promote long-term foot health. Join us at Broche Ballet to refine your technique and gain confidence in your pointe shoes.
