About This Video
Welcome to Class #7 of the Broche Ballet Beginner Pointe Summer Cohort. This session marks a pivotal transition in your training as we move from foundational two-foot stability toward the more demanding requirements of single-leg strength and stamina. Dancing en pointe requires not just muscular power, but the endurance to maintain proper alignment while shifting weight—a skill essential for eventually moving into the center.
Throughout this lesson, we refine the mechanics of the relevé. A common hurdle for beginner students is over-reliance on the barre for balance. We address this by practicing quick upward movements paired with slow, controlled descents. This technique creates a 'floating' sensation, training the feet and ankles to manage the body's weight without collapsing. By focusing on a resistant roll-down through the pointe shoe, you will build the intrinsic foot strength necessary to find your own center.
We also dive deep into the execution of the pas de bourrée and glissade. You will learn the concept of lifting the hip to create space, allowing the working leg to stretch fully underneath the body. Our instructor emphasizes the 'up-and-over' sensation, which is vital for maintaining clarity during transitions. We also explore the changé, focusing on core engagement and turnout to stabilize the body during weight shifts.
Building stamina is a primary goal of this class, particularly for exercises that require pushing from two legs up onto a single leg. Our detailed demonstrations ensure you understand the theory behind every movement, from the initial plié to the final position. Whether you are practicing at home or in a studio, this Broche Ballet class provides the technical corrections and encouragement needed to advance your pointe work with confidence and grace.
