About This Video
Welcome to Class #6 of the Fall 2023 Beginner Pointe Program at Broche Ballet. This session marks a pivotal point in our 16-week curriculum as we transition from basic foot exercises to developing the stamina required for sustained combinations. For any dancer embarking on their pointe journey, building strength on a single leg is the cornerstone of stability, balance, and eventual center work.
Throughout this lesson, we focus on the intricate mechanics of the temps lié and the pas de bourrée. These movements are more than just steps; they are the "glue" that connects balletic phrases. You will learn how to maintain correct ankle alignment and turnout while shifting weight between feet, a skill that becomes significantly more challenging when elevated en pointe.
The instructor provides detailed corrections on performing a demi-plié with correct foot placement, ensuring you are working through your shoes rather than just standing on them. A significant portion of Class #6 is dedicated to building endurance through repetitive relevé and sous-sus sequences. We explore the technique of stepping across and back out, focusing on the lift out of the waist and the engagement of the supporting leg.
By practicing these combinations, students learn to distribute their weight evenly, avoiding common pitfalls like rolling or sinking into the shoe. This "up and over" approach is essential for mastering transitions and maintaining form during longer sequences. In addition to the physical work, we discuss the importance of proper shoe fit and alignment.
Understanding how your ribbons and elastics support your ankles is crucial for both comfort and safety. We conclude the session with a targeted cool-down stretch for the calves, ankles, and arches. This final step helps prevent injury and promotes flexibility, ensuring your body is ready for the next level of training.
Join Broche Ballet as we refine your technique and build the confidence to dance beautifully en pointe.
