About This Video
Master the fundamentals of classical dance with this 'Clean, Simple & Precise Beginner Ballet Barre' class from Broche Ballet. This 50-minute session is meticulously designed for adult dancers who want to establish or refine a rock-solid technical foundation. Instead of rushing through complex combinations, we slow down to focus on the essential details that separate a good dancer from a great one.
The class covers a comprehensive range of traditional barre exercises, starting with the plié and grand plié. Here, the focus is on maintaining a deep, controlled bend while ensuring your alignment remains stacked and your turnout is engaged from the hips. As we move into tendu and dégagé, you will be encouraged to find a smooth, fluid connection with the floor, building the foot strength necessary for more advanced jumps and pointe work later in your training.
One of the standout features of this practice is the attention given to port de bras. You will learn to maintain the 'elbow above wrist' rule to create a professional silhouette and ensure your hands stay below the shoulders during transitions from an arabesque or plié. We also address the subtle mechanics of the arabesque, teaching you how to achieve maximum extension and balance while keeping the head in a long line with the shoulders.
Finally, we practice the art of the release. Learning to let go of the barre elegantly and with control is vital for developing the core stability needed for center work. By the end of this session, you will have a better understanding of how to synchronize your breathing with your movements, allowing for a more relaxed and expressive performance.
