About This Video
Unlock the secrets to effortless turns with this comprehensive Broche Ballet session focused on pointe work. Whether you are transitioning from basics to intermediate combinations or looking to refine your center work, Julie provides the technical cues necessary to find your axis and maintain momentum. This class is structured in three distinct segments to build your confidence and strength.
We begin with a 20-minute foundational warm-up to prepare the feet and core for the demands of the center. Following the basics, we transition into 15 minutes of intermediate combinations, where we focus on port de bras and fluid transitions. The final portion of the class is dedicated entirely to the art of the pirouette and other turns en pointe.
One of the core focuses of this lesson is how to use the upper back to generate power. Rather than relying solely on the push from the legs, you will learn to bring your upper back forward over the foot to maintain speed and control throughout your rotation. Julie also introduces a unique visualization technique—using a fist with one hand to meet the other—to ensure the second shoulder follows the turn, preventing it from trailing behind.
Precision is key when dancing en pointe. We explore the concept of spiraling the body around the leg instead of simply staying up on it. This subtle shift in focus allows for a more dynamic and stable pirouette.
Throughout the practice, you will work on integrating these technical refinements into existing routines, emphasizing speed, fluidity, and proper body positioning. By pushing up into relevé with intention, you will find the momentum needed to execute crisp, clean turns. Join us at Broche Ballet and take your pointe technique to the next level.
