About This Video
Transitioning from soft shoes to pointe shoes is a monumental milestone in a dancer's journey. At Broche Ballet, we understand that the key to a successful transition—and long-term safety—is a rock-solid foundation. This "Pointe Basics Barre" class is specifically designed to help beginner to intermediate dancers build the necessary strength, control, and confidence to move gracefully en pointe.
Throughout this 26-minute session, we focus on classic pointework through simple yet effective barre combinations. We begin by establishing proper turnout and alignment through fundamental combinations. This initial focus ensures that your body is correctly stacked before we introduce more complex weight transfers.
You will learn to engage your core and inner thighs, particularly during one-legged actions which are inherently challenging but vital for stability en pointe. The class delves into specific movements such as the tombé and passé. We break down the mechanics of sliding into a three-quarter point and rolling down with control, which is essential for preventing injury and achieving fluidity.
In our adagio sequences, we practice the passé over movement, treating it with the same care and weight-shift logic as a tombé. This approach helps dancers understand the relationship between different steps, making complex movements feel more intuitive. Beyond footwork, this class emphasizes the importance of the upper body.
Maintaining proper alignment and using your port de bras effectively provides the counterbalance needed for secure pointework. We encourage a smooth rebound after sequences, using the opposite arm to guide the opening and closing of positions. By breaking down these movements into smaller, manageable parts, Broche Ballet helps you master the technique required to progress from a beginner to an intermediate level with poise.
Whether you are refining your sous-sus or working on the precision of your jeté, this barre class provides the structural support every pointe dancer needs.
