About This Video
Welcome to Broche Ballet’s specialized session on building ballet pointe strength at the barre. This class is meticulously designed for dancers of all levels who are currently training en pointe and wish to refine their stability, alignment, and technical execution. Throughout the lesson, our expert instructor guides you through a series of intentional exercises that bridge the gap between basic positions and fluid movement.
We begin with foundational relevés in first position. Here, the focus is on achieving a vertical line by keeping the hips directly over the feet and maintaining the upper back slightly forward to counter the shift of gravity. You will learn the mental cue of reaching your toes toward the floor while en pointe, a technique that helps lengthen the body and find a deeper connection to the floor.
By lifting the kneecaps, you will engage the core and leg muscles necessary for a secure balance. As the class progresses, we move into more complex barre work involving passé and promenade. Maintaining control during these transitions is vital.
Whether you are facing the barre or using one hand for support, the lesson emphasizes smooth weight shifts and precise placement. You will also practice développé front and arabesque, focusing on maintaining poise and turnout as the leg extends. A highlight of this practice is the plié roll off of the pointe shoe.
This exercise is crucial for developing the strength to push back up to a stable passé or relevé, ensuring you have the power and control needed for center work. By the end of this session, you will have a better understanding of how to use the barre as a tool for refinement rather than a crutch, preparing your body for the rigors of dancing en pointe. Join the Broche Ballet community and take your pointe work to the next level with these expert-led techniques.
