About This Video
Mastering the art of dancing en pointe is a journey of both strength and flexibility. At Broche Ballet, we understand that achieving a beautiful line requires targeted work on the foot's anatomy, specifically the wing range. This 10-minute specialized class is designed to help dancers improve their ability to get over the box by focusing on foot articulation and ankle mobility.
The session begins in first position, where you will focus on lifting the heel as high as possible. This action isn't just about height; it’s about creating the correct shape and engagement within the arch. You will learn to navigate half-point positions, using your toes to push the ankle forward rather than relying on body weight.
This subtle shift in focus is key to developing the intrinsic strength needed for stable pointe work. Throughout the class, we incorporate foundational movements such as plié, relevé, and tendu. By performing tendu leans and crisscross stretches, you will target the midfoot and the ankle's lateral range.
We also explore the importance of the drag—focusing on bringing the heel forward in front of the toe—which is essential for maintaining proper alignment while wearing pointe shoes. Our instructor guides you through three repetitions of half-point exercises on each side, ensuring that you engage the wing muscles effectively. We also delve into parallel tendus with relevés to isolate the ankle and increase its range of motion.
By the end of this 10-minute intensive, you will have a better understanding of how to stretch the ankle, shin, and toes together to create a seamless line from the leg through the tips of the shoes. Whether you are looking to refine your aesthetic or build foundational stability, these stretches offer the perfect supplement to your daily barre routine.
