About This Video
Preparation for dancing en pointe starts long before you ever step into your first pair of satin shoes. This specialized pre-pointe class from Broche Ballet is designed to build the foundational strength, flexibility, and coordination required for a successful transition to pointe work. Through a series of targeted exercises, you will focus on the intrinsic muscles of the feet and the stabilizers of the ankle, ensuring you have the power and control necessary for safe and beautiful dancing.
During this 13-minute practice, we explore the mechanics of the foot, moving beyond a simple point to find a deep, supported stretch. You will learn to articulate through the demi-pointe, practice the subtle 'winging' of the foot to enhance your aesthetic line, and engage in flexing and pointing sequences that build muscular endurance. A major focus of this session is leg alignment; we emphasize maintaining a fully stretched leg with straight knees throughout every movement to prevent common habits that can lead to injury.
Coordination is equally vital in ballet. As such, this class challenges you to sync your foot movements with specific arm patterns and musical cues. By practicing alternating movements and rhythmic sequences, you will develop the mental and physical agility needed for complex center work.
We also incorporate relevé power drills to improve your stamina and lifting capability. Whether you are a complete beginner or a seasoned student looking to refine your footwork, these exercises provide the groundwork for a stronger, more disciplined technique. By the end of this session, you will understand how to engage your core to support your lower body, how to maintain proper foot placement to ensure balance, and how to use your breath to fuel your performance.
