About This Video
Welcome to Class #13 of the Winter 2024 Beginner Pointe Program at Broche Ballet. This 'checkpoint class' serves as a high-intensity, fast-paced strengthener designed to solidify your technical foundation as we move into the final stages of the 16-week series. This session is specifically crafted to help you push through plateaus, focusing on the precision of movement and the muscular endurance required for dancing en pointe.
In this hour-long practice, we dive deep into the mechanics of the relevé coupé. This movement is a vital skill for weight distribution and stability. We emphasize the shape of the back foot, specifically training the ankle to roll forward as you rise to the platform of the shoe.
A common challenge for beginner pointe dancers is wobbling; we address this by training the hips to remain stable while the ankles drive forward, creating a secure line of support. The class also explores the fluid transition between tombé and piqué passé. We break down the coordination of the plié and the subsequent roll down through the foot to ensure every movement is both deliberate and safe.
You will also practice 'reg runs'—a combination involving chassé, tendu, and fondu—to improve your transitions and overall footwork. By focusing on the 'melt' of the fondu and the precision of the tendu front, you will develop the grace and strength required for more advanced combinations. Throughout the session, we prioritize proper body alignment and technical accuracy.
We cover essential warm-ups to prepare your ankles, followed by intense drills at the barre. This class is an excellent tool to gauge your progress and identify specific areas, like ankle forward motion, that may need extra attention in your independent practice. Join us at Broche Ballet as we refine your pointe technique and build the stamina necessary for confident dancing.
