About This Video
Welcome to the fifth session of the Broche Ballet 16-week Beginner Pointe Program. In this comprehensive 57-minute class, we dive deep into the technical refinements necessary to transition from basic movements to more complex sequences. Our primary focus today is on building stamina and perfecting the mechanics of the pas de bourrée.
The class begins at the barre, where we emphasize the foundational importance of proper foot placement and alignment. As you move through exercises like plié and tendu, you will learn the concept of "hardening" the foot inside the pointe shoe. This technique is vital for supporting your body weight effectively and preventing premature fatigue during longer combinations.
A significant portion of this session is dedicated to the pas de bourrée. We break down the movement into its core components: picking up the foot with precision, rolling down through demi-pointe, and landing softly on both feet. By mastering these transitions, you will develop the fluidity required for center work.
Beyond footwork, this class highlights the role of the upper body. You will learn how to engage your back muscles to maintain balance and use the barre not just for stability, but as a tool for resistance. By pushing down through the elbows, you create a solid frame that supports your relevé and sous-sous.
As we progress, we challenge your endurance with high-repetition exercises, including a goal of 16 consecutive relevés. This serves to build the muscular stamina needed for performance. We conclude the session with specific stretches designed to care for the feet and toes, ensuring your recovery is as productive as your practice.
Whether you are working on your fondu or perfecting your en dedans transitions, this class provides the technical building blocks for a strong pointe foundation.
