About This Video
Welcome to Class #5 of the Broche Ballet Winter 2024 Beginner Pointe Program. This 56-minute session is designed to bridge the gap between basic stability and fluid movement. As we progress through this 16-week journey, our focus shifts toward building the necessary stamina to sustain longer combinations while refining the intricate footwork required for the pas de bourrée.
The class begins at the barre with essential foundational exercises. We utilize demi-pliés to establish a deep connection with the floor and stretch the calves, ensuring the legs are prepared for the demands of en pointe work. From there, we transition into tendu and relevé sequences.
These exercises are not merely warm-ups; they are the building blocks for strength. By focusing on the roll up through the demi-pointe, students learn to articulate the foot correctly, which is vital for safety and aesthetic precision. A significant portion of this lesson is dedicated to the pas de bourrée.
This transition step requires a delicate balance of speed, control, and proper alignment. We break down the movement into its component parts, practicing the transition from plié to sous-sus and back down. This repetition helps build the muscle memory needed to execute these steps with grace and confidence.
You will also work on combinations that challenge your coordination and cardiovascular endurance. Throughout the class, your instructor provides detailed cues on turnout, core engagement, and weight distribution. We conclude with a focused cooling-down period, including calf stretches and gentle movements to release tension in the feet.
Whether you are practicing at home or in a studio, this class offers the structured guidance needed to advance your pointe work safely. Please remember that pointe work should only be undertaken with the approval of a qualified ballet teacher to ensure your feet and ankles are physically prepared.
