About This Video
Welcome to Class #12 of the Broche Ballet Beginner Pointe 16-week Program. This session is designed to bridge the gap between basic strength exercises and the fluid artistry required for center work. We focus heavily on the mechanics of the piqué sous-sus, a fundamental movement that requires impeccable alignment and core engagement. Throughout this 29-minute class, your instructor will guide you through the nuances of moving en pointe with grace and stability.
A significant portion of this lesson is dedicated to adagio work. You will learn how to weave together various movements—including cou-de-pied, pas de bourrée, and piqué ballonné—into a cohesive and expressive combination. We place a special emphasis on the 'roll down' from a sous-sus position. Many beginners struggle with a jarring drop; here, you will learn the technique to descend without bouncing, utilizing the strength of your arches and calves to control the movement.
We also examine the often-overlooked role of the back foot in smoothing out transitions. By understanding how to engage the trailing leg, you can eliminate the 'hopping' sensation often felt during piqué transitions, leading to a much more professional and fluid aesthetic. The class includes specific work on arabesque and plié en pointe to ensure your weight placement is centered over the platform of the shoe.
To conclude the session, we transition into a series of essential recovery exercises. Stretching the Achilles tendon, the tops of the feet, and the ankles is vital for maintaining long-term foot health and flexibility while dancing en pointe. This holistic approach ensures you are building not just the strength to dance, but the flexibility to recover and improve. Join Broche Ballet as we refine your technique and build your confidence on your toes.
