About This Video
Welcome to Broche Ballet’s Beginner Follow-along Barre, a comprehensive 24-minute session dedicated to refining your classical technique and building functional strength. This class is designed for dancers who want to move beyond simple repetition and truly understand the mechanics behind every movement. Throughout this practice, we place a special emphasis on the hamstrings and calves, ensuring that every extension and lift is supported by the correct muscle groups to prevent injury and improve aesthetics.
Our session begins at the barre, where we dive into the fundamentals of pliés, tendus, and dégagés. These essential exercises serve as the building blocks for all ballet movements, and our instructor provides detailed cues to help you maintain proper alignment and core engagement. We then transition into more complex footwork, focusing on the transition from coupé to passé.
You will learn how to lift the heel toward the retiré position while keeping the knee stable and the turnout active. One of the highlights of this class is the focus on frappé. This exercise is crucial for developing speed and precision in the lower legs.
We work on the quick strike from a demi-pointe or flexed position, teaching you how to control the leg's momentum without sacrificing your posture. We also explore the relationship between the foot’s position—whether flexed or pointed—and how it can be used to activate the hamstrings more effectively during passé movements. Moving slightly away from the barre, we introduce the tombé and temps lié.
These steps are vital for learning how to transfer weight smoothly and gracefully across the floor. At Broche Ballet, we believe that a strong foundation is the key to longevity in dance. This class provides the technical corrections necessary to help you avoid common pitfalls and execute every movement with precision.
Whether you are practicing in a home studio or a professional space, this follow-along barre will challenge your control and enhance your overall ballet technique.
