About This Video
Welcome to the sixth installment of our Beginner Jump Series at Broche Ballet. This class is uniquely designed to help you master the mechanics of jumping without actually leaving the ground. Whether you are practicing in a small space or have flooring that isn't ideal for high-impact movements, this session focuses on building the foundational strength and coordination necessary for graceful, powerful jumps like the jeté.
We start by diving deep into the technical components of the jeté, breaking down the movement of the legs and arms to ensure your coordination is sharp and your balance is stable. By practicing these movements 'terre à terre' (on the ground), you can focus entirely on your alignment and the 'releasing' technique of the knees, which is vital for safe and fluid sautés later on. Throughout the class, we incorporate specific calf strength drills and relevé exercises to prepare your lower body for the demands of allegro work.
You will learn how to transition smoothly between positions, such as moving from a plié into a passé with control. The instructor provides modifications, such as keeping hands on the shoulders, to ensure that even absolute beginners feel successful. This class is a perfect bridge for students who want to improve their jump height and speed but need to focus on the underlying mechanics of weight placement and muscle engagement first.
By the end of this 21-minute session, you will have a better understanding of how to use your breath and body awareness to create the illusion of lightness, setting you up for success in the final classes of this series. Join us at Broche Ballet as we refine your technique and build the confidence to soar.
