About This Video
Welcome to Week 12 of the Beginner Pointe Cohort at Broche Ballet. As we move into the final third of our 16-week program, the focus shifts toward developing the strength and confidence necessary to work on a single leg. This transition is a vital milestone in any dancer's journey en pointe, requiring a deep connection to the core and precise placement of the feet within the box of the shoe. Working on a single leg challenges your alignment and demands total control over your turnout.
In this class, we begin with a comprehensive adagio sequence designed to test your balance and verticality. We incorporate movements such as *sous-sus*, *passé*, and *dégagé*, focusing on the lift required to move from two feet to one without sinking into the standing hip. These exercises are essential for building the muscle memory needed for more advanced center work. We also introduce the *temps lié* combined with a graceful *cambré*, teaching you how to maintain a stable base while the upper body moves through space, adding artistry to your technical foundation.
A major highlight of today's lesson is the *échappé*. We break down this 'escaping' movement from fifth position to second, emphasizing the importance of a strong *relevé* and a controlled descent. You will learn how to maintain your turnout and alignment even as the legs move apart and together. Additionally, we refine the *pas de bourrée* and *bourrée* sequences. The instructor provides detailed cues on footwork patterns, helping you achieve the light, fluttering quality that characterizes elegant pointe work.
We also cover the *soutenu*, focusing on keeping the boxes of the shoes in contact with or very near the floor to maintain maximum control during the movement. This technique is vital for safety and precision as you begin to add more complex patterns to your practice. To wrap up the session, we include a targeted stretch to release tension in the calves and feet, ensuring a healthy recovery for your next session. Join us at Broche Ballet as we refine these technical details and move one step closer to pointe mastery.
