About This Video
Celebrate Boxing Day with a rejuvenating All-Level Ballet Barre designed to ground your technique and revitalize your body. At Broche Ballet, we believe that consistent practice is the key to progress, even during the holiday season. This nearly 45-minute class is structured to guide you through a comprehensive series of exercises that emphasize functional alignment, core strength, and the essential mechanics of classical dance.
The focus of this session centers on the vital concept of "pushing the floor." Many dancers focus solely on the working leg, but true stability and height come from the standing leg's active connection to the ground. Throughout the class, we explore how to maintain a strong standing knee position to ensure "body happiness," preventing discomfort and long-term joint strain. Whether you are performing a tendu, plié, or a more advanced grand battement, that downward pressure is the foundation of your movement.
We dive deep into the mechanics of the fondu and développé, teaching you how to coordinate the extension of both legs simultaneously. You will also practice passé positions and pirouette preparations, focusing on the correct sequence of movements from front to side and back. A highlight of the lesson is the grand rond de jambe, where we concentrate on the rotation of the hip while maintaining a laser-focus on the toes and the stability of the standing leg.
Dancers will also work on their arabesque and back extensions, learning to brush through the floor to achieve a beautiful line. We pay special attention to the sensation in the back of the leg during développé movements, ensuring that the muscles are engaged correctly to support the weight of the limb. By the end of this class, you will feel more centered, stronger, and more connected to your ballet fundamentals. Join us at the barre and start your post-holiday training with intention and grace.
