About This Video
Transitioning from the stability of the barre to the center is one of the most challenging milestones in a dancer’s journey. In this 32-minute practice session with Broche Ballet, we bridge that gap by performing a full center barre while wearing pointe shoes. Although we remain on flat throughout the class, the added weight and structure of the pointe shoe provide a unique challenge for foot articulation and balance.
Throughout the lesson, you will focus on core engagement and the precision of your standing leg. We begin with fundamental movements like the plié and tendu, ensuring that even without the barre, your alignment remains vertical and your knees track correctly over your toes. The class progresses into more complex movements, including ton lié and fondu, where the emphasis shifts to the fluidity of weight transfer.
You will learn the correct technique for a crisp cou-de-pied and discover how to maintain a stable arabesque by engaging your back muscles and stabilizing your standing toes. One of the highlights of this session is the grand battement. Executing large kicks in the center requires immense control; we will work on keeping the arms energized and the torso quiet as the leg reaches its full height.
We also dive into the nuances of demi-pointe, teaching you to push through the floor with your toes rather than simply lifting the foot with the leg muscles. By the end of this class, you will have a deeper understanding of how to find your own center, allowing you to dance with more freedom and confidence. Whether you are preparing for full pointe work or simply want to strengthen your ankles and improve your posture, this center barre practice offers the perfect technical foundation for intermediate dancers.
