About This Video
Welcome to the first step of your journey en pointe. At Broche Ballet, we understand that transitioning to pointe shoes is one of the most exciting yet challenging milestones for a dancer. Class #1 of our 16-week Beginner Pointe Program is designed to set you up for success from the very first moment.
We begin this session barefoot, allowing us to discuss foot health and preparation before we put our shoes on together for the first time in this course. One of the primary focuses of this introductory class is troubleshooting the fit of your pointe shoes. Dancing en pointe should be challenging, but it shouldn’t be debilitating.
Our instructor dives deep into common issues such as painful pressure on the big toe or fourth toe, redness, and general discomfort within the box. You will learn how to identify if your shoe is supporting you correctly or if adjustments are needed. We explore the use of essential accessories like toe caps, silicone sleeves, and box liners to alleviate pressure points and provide the necessary support for your unique foot shape.
Foot care is a vital component of ballet training. In this video, we specifically address toenail maintenance. Improperly cut nails can lead to painful ingrown toenails, which can halt your progress.
We provide clear guidance on how to trim your nails straight across to ensure you stay comfortable while performing relevé and other foundational movements. Furthermore, we share professional tips on how to soften specific areas of the shoe, such as gently massaging the fourth toe joint to reduce friction. Throughout this 32-minute session, the goal is to build a foundation of confidence.
We encourage you to communicate your experiences, as no two pairs of feet are the same. Whether you are dealing with moisture management to prevent bacterial growth or simply learning how to tie your ribbons for the first time, this class provides the comprehensive support every adult dancer needs. Join us at Broche Ballet as we embark on this transformative 16-week journey together.
